Tottenham: Townsend brushes off Bale comparisons

Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend wants to make his own name in the game

Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend wants to make his own name in the game.
The 22-year-old has enjoyed a stunning start to the season and has been named in Roy Hodgson’s England squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Montenegro and Poland.
His displays so far this term have earned him the label of the ‘new Gareth Bale’, while former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp even compared the winger with Bayern Munich superstar Arjen Robben.

However, Townsend has now admitted he is embarrassed by such comparisons.
He told The Sun: “It’s wonderful when people say such things but football is a tough world — and as quickly as you can be flavour of the month, you are only ever one or two bad games away from being slated.
“These top players have been performing consistently for years at the highest level.
“If I ever achieve half as much as some of these players, I will be very happy.
“To be the new Bale, the new Robben, the new Aaron Lennon is not something I strive for.
“I want to achieve things in the game like them — but ultimately I want to make my own name in the game and be Andros
