Spurs’ Revitalised Attacker: Even My Family Said I Was “Rubbish”

Tottenham Hotspur's Adebayor in action during their English Premier League match against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea
Striker Emmanuel Adebayor has revealed that his Tottenham career hit rock bottom under former boss Andre Villas-Boas and even his own family insulted him due to a lack of appearances, according to The Independent.
The Togo International was alienated by the Portuguese after failing to secure a move away from White Hart Lane in the summer and found himself down the pecking order behind Roberto Soldado and Jermain Defoe. Villas-Boas constantly overlooked Adebayor, only affording him 45 minutes of action all season.
However, since Tim Sherwood has taken the reins in North London the 29 year-old has had a dramatic change in fortunes and been restored to the starting line-up.

The striker has gone on to net five goals in six games, with Spurs collecting 16 points in the same period, as their quest for a Champions League place has been re-energised.
Despite the outlook now appearing to be positive, Adebayor has revealed just how low he felt earlier in the season and also thanked Sherwood for showing faith in his ability.
“I was right at the bottom of the hole. Even people in my own country, people from my own family, criticised me. It can’t get worse than that. They said, ‘You’re rubbish and whatever you did before in your career was luck’.”
“But the new coach (Sherwood) trusted me. He gave me the keys to all the doors of the club and said, ‘Do what you want to do and make yourself at home
