Harrysong: “My Mother & Father are Siblings

Harrison Tari Okri, aka Harrysong, is one of the hottest acts right now. This energetic writer, singer and producer shared a major secret with YES INTERNATIONAL!’s GBENGA SHABA about his parents. He also spoke on other issues…
 Let us meet you.
My name is Harrison Tari Okri. I’m from Delta State, an Ijaw man from Warri, but grew up in Port-Harcourt. My stage name is Harrysong. I am the first and the only child of my parents.
You mean you are an only child?
No. It’s just that after my dad and my mum gave birth to me, they separated and went their different ways. So, my father got married to another woman and also my mother to another man. They separated because I was given birth to by two relations. My father and mother are actually brother and sister. They gave birth to me before they could realize that.
 How did that happen?
I don’t know.
Did you ask them?
I don’t know.
Did you ever ask them how they met and fell in love?
Well, I learnt that when my mother was alive, she met my father. Then she was still in school and they were in the same class and the same village. But she didn’t know that they are closely related. So, I was born based on what our villagers regarded as abomination and therefore they had to separate.

Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud help Arsenal beat Newcastle to tighten grip on fourth place in Premier League

Arsenal moved a step closer to securing Champions League football for a 17th consecutive season with victory at the Emirates Stadium.
The win helped the Gunners open up a four-point gap over top-four rivals Everton, with just two games of the campaign remaining.
The result meant more misery for Newcastle, who slumped to a sixth straight Premier League defeat for the first time since 1987, despite having boss Alan Pardew back on the touchline after his seven-match ban.
The game had offered little by way of action until the unlikely boot of Laurent Koscielny broke the deadlock from a set piece on 26 minutes when the French defender managed to get a toe on the end of Santi Cazorla’s free-kick for his second league goal of the season.
Despite the best efforts of Magpies keeper Tim Krul, the hosts doubled their lead just before the break. The Newcastle stopper twice denied Olivier Giroud before the ball fell kindly for Mesut Ozil, who swept the ball home from close range.

Theo Walcott may miss the start of next season as he battles to recover from rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament against Tottenham in January.
The England international was stretchered off during the FA Cup encounter, ruling him out of this summer’s World Cup.
But Walcott has today revealed he may not even be fit for the start of next season, insisting he is in no rush to return to action.
‘It’s nearly been four months now and my recovery has gone on track so far,’ he said.

Steven Gerrard slip mercilessly mocked by internet

The best Gerrard slip memes on the internet
Pulling his hair out: Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard (Picture: PA)
It’s no fun being Steven Gerrard this morning…
Less than 24 hours after his slip against Chelsea surrendered Liverpool’s title fate to Manchester City, the internet is awash with meme’s and viral videos that will leave the Reds captain feeling sick to his stomach.
New banana boots, Fergie teasing the Premier League title away with a fishing rod and bogus heat maps are just some of the pictures doing the rounds that mock Gerrard’s heartbreaking moment which allowed Demba Ba to run clean through on goal and score the goal which would give Chelsea the lead they needed to hang on to for a crucial win.

Never mind being out of the race, now Arsenal or Manchester United may be forced to hand over one of their Premier League trophies to Liverpool, Chelsea or Manchester City

Why United or Arsenal may have to HAND OVER one of their titles to Liverpool, Chelsea or Man City
What’s the story?
Arsenal, Manchester United or Blackburn Rovers could be forced to lend one of their precious Premier League trophies to Liverpool, Chelsea or Manchester City should the title race go down to the last day, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Why?
The Premier League only has two trophies at its disposal – one in its London headquarters and one with the current champions, United.
Should Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City all still be in contention on May 11, the Premier League will be short one trophy – as they’ll need a replica at each ground to present to the eventual winner – meaning they may have to borrow a replica from a previous title winner who aren’t involved in the race

Tori Amos: the riot grrl fighting for the fairer sex

Tori Amos: the riot grrl fighting for the fairer sex
Tori Amos confronts personal issues such as ageism in her new album (Picture: supplied)
‘I come from a long line of warriors,’ says Tori Amos. ‘My great-great-grandmother was a Cherokee who survived the Trail Of Tears in 1830, when thousands of Native Americans were being ethnically cleansed from the southern states. She was one of the few hundred people who survived in the Smoky Mountains for nine months. These are the gals I respect. Wilma Mankiller, the leader of the Cherokee nation who educated herself from nothing and fought for Native rights – now there’s a woman. What a role model.’
For years, people have got Amos all wrong. Some people think she’s some middle-of-the-road pixie, a real-life Phoebe from Friends, trilling hippy-dippy rhymes about fairy tales and cornflake girls. But, over a quarter of a century and 14 albums, she’s been one of pop’s weirdest and most unpredictable artists. She’s the riot grrrl in concert pianist garb, whose confessional songs tackle rape and religion, feminism and power, art and mythology. Even the sonic background – the florid piano accompaniment, the unorthodox chord changes and symphonic curlicues – has always been seriously weird.
‘I don’t see the piano as a polite, passive instrument,’ she says. ‘You can take what Prince, Jimi Hendrix and Robert Plant were doing and contain that energy on a piano. It’s about maintaining that 220 voltage, of having the chops to be able to contain and focus it on the keys, of using intimacy and power. When I first started, everyone was telling me that the piano had had its time. The label initially rejected my debut album, Little Earthquakes. They said I had to take all the pianos off and replace them with guitars. Screw that. I can be as heavy as any rock guitarist!’

‘I decided that killing flies was the best way for me to be useful – and I’ve been doing it now every day since.’
Ruan is a fly killing machine and says she can swat around 1,000 of them each day.
The pensioner has been praised by the Chinese media, which describe the insects as an ‘enemy of the people, noisy, disease spreading and revolting

‘The rest of the school is continuing to operate as normal and we would ask that parents do not attend the site unless directly requested to do so by the school.

Mourinho fined by the FA

Mourinho fined by the FA.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has been fined by the Football Association after being found guilty of improper conduct.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has been fined by the Football Association after being found guilty of improper conduct.
The charge relates to an incident during the Blues' defeat to Aston Villa in which the Portuguese tactician entered the field of play after a scuffle following Chelsea midfielder Ramires' sending off.
Mourinho had requested a personal hearing to plead his case, but he was unsuccessful in convincing the FA of his innocence.
"Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has been fined £8,000 and warned as to his future conduct following an independent regulatory commission hearing," the FA said in a statement.
"Mourinho denied a breach of FA rule E3 in that his behaviour in re-entering the field of play and approaching the match referee (Foy) in an attempt to speak to him, in or around the 90th minute of the game against Aston Villa on March 15, 2014, amounted to improper conduct.

Arsenal’s nine-year trophy wait nearly over after penalties victory sends Gunners to FA Cup final

Nine-year wait nearly over as Gunners reach FA Cup final
Arsenal have reached the FA Cup final (Picture: EPA)
Arsenal have reached the FA Cup final after a hard-fought victory over Wigan at Wembley, with the game going all the way to penalties.
The Gunners are still on course to pick up their first silverware in nine years and will meet either Hull City or Sheffield United, who play their semi-final tomorrow.
Wigan looked as though they would manage yet another Cup upset when Jordi Gomez gave them a second-half lead from the penalty spot, after Per Mertesacker fouled Callum McManaman.
But the German defender made amends eight minutes from time when he headed home from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s wayward shot.
And it was Oxlade-Chamberlain who came closest in extra time, rattling the outstanding Scott Carson’s bar with a stinging effort from distance.

2015: Jonathan woos aggrieved APC leaders

President Goodluck Jonathan
President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party have launched a plan to lure prominent members of the country’s biggest opposition party, All Progressives Congress, into the ruling party, SUNDAY PUNCH has authoritatively learnt.
An investigation by our correspondent showed that loyalists to the President had been meeting with leaders of the APC known to be aggrieved with developments in the opposition party.
It was learnt that the ruling party will capitalise on, among other issues, the internal wrangling in the APC over an alleged plan to present a Muslim/Muslim presidential ticket under a consensus arrangement for the 2015 election.
SUNDAY PUNCH had exclusively reported on April 6, 2014, that Christian leaders of the APC who were aggrieved with the alleged mono-religious ticket and consensus arrangement had threatened to quit the party, if the national leaders of the party carried out their alleged plan.
Even though the party’s spokesman, Mr. Lai Mohammed, has refuted the claims, its members insist that the hierarchy of the party have concluded plans to field a former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and a former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, as the party’s presidential candidates through a consensus arrangement. Buhari and Tinubu are Muslims.

JAMB fails to conduct UTME in Maiduguri

JAMB Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board could not conduct the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The JAMB Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, stated this while monitoring the conduct of the UTME in Abuja on Saturday.
The development came as confusion marked the exercise in some examination centres in Akwa Ibom State.
The board conducted its Dual-Based Test and Paper Pencil Test on Saturday with no fewer than 1,015,504 candidates writing the examination. The tests qualify the candidates for admission to the nation’s universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.
Another batch of 616,574 candidates from May 17, 2014, will write the Computer-Based Test.
The board had last Tuesday assured that it had made adequate arrangements to ensure a hitch-free conduct of the UMTE in all the states, including Borno, Yobe and Adamawa.

How my sister sold me with pregnancy for

 N100,000—Victim

A 23-year-old pregnant woman,  Jennifer Ogbonna, raised the emotion of people recently at Zone 2, Police Headquarters, Abeokuta, Ogun State, when she narrated how her sister tricked her into slavery and sold her off with her 7-month old pregnancy.   She was then transported from Aba to Abeokuta after a couple who allegedly specialized  in buying human beings from all  parts of the country paid N100,000 to her sister.
The Victims
The Victims
My story
The lady who hails from Ebonyi State but lived and worked in Aba narrated her ugly experiences shortly after she was rescued by the Police. She said: “I was brought to Abeokuta by the woman’s husband. I don’t know that they had already paid money on my head. I only got to know in Abeokuta when I overheard the woman and her husband talking about child trafficking and I felt bad.   I decided not to eat any of their food. There is one lady
in that building, they call her Adeola, she would bring  food for me and I would not touch it to the extent that the woman’s husband  pleaded with me  to eat and still I  refused and said I am going back to Aba where she brought me from.
“When I said I was going to Aba, the man was angry and said before he would allow me to go back, I must pay back the N100,000 he paid my sister for myself and my pregnancy and the expenses he incurred so far on me. After that, his wife took me to one shrine and asked me to swear to an oath not to go back to Aba or tell anybody what happened, that  if I try to go back or tell anybody, she will make me mad; she would make me deaf and dumb.

Chelsea have gone back to the top of the Premier League as they cruised past Stoke with a 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues suffered a tough week, losing to both Crystal Palace and Paris Saint-Germain, but got things back on track this evening thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah, Frank Lampard and Willian.
Salah, on his full Chelsea debut, was outstanding and deservedly opened the scoring after 32 minutes.
Lampard doubled the hosts’ lead after the break, when Salah was brought down in the penalty box.
The England international had his initial spot kick saved by Asmir Begovic but put away the rebound, before Willian scored a superb solo third.
There was no goal for Fernando Torres who played the full 90 minutes, but Jose Mourinho will be pleased with the way his side dominated ahead of Tuesday’s crucial second leg against PSG.
