Family of seven, three others killed, scores missing in Kaduna

Again, unknown gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen on Thursday night invaded Manchok Township in Kaura Local Government Area in Southern Kaduna. A family of seven and three others were reportedly killed while scores have been declared missing An eyewitness who pleaded for anonymity reported that the attackers raided the area about 2am on Thursday.
He said, “We heard gunshots around 2am on Thursday. We suspect that Fulani men are behind this attack. They have being killing us here for long without being challenged by our security agents. A family of seven and other three residents were killed. Many others are still missing.”
Meanwhile, Kaduna State Governor, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, who visited Ungwar Kajit in Manchok Community of Kaura LGA over the attack, described the heinous act as ungodly and condemnable. Yero prayed that God should expose the perpetrators saying “We pray that God should expose the people that are causing this problem. We pray that God should touch their hearts to stop such dastardly acts or destroy their evil machinations.”

Governor Yero, who was visibly shocked by the unfortunate incident, called on people in the community to remain calm as government will scale up its strategies to improve security, especially in border communities.
“We are going to look at ways of dealing with this situation, because this community is porous and we must find ways to improve security,” he added. The Governor observed that communities on the State boundaries, especially with states that have security challenges, have become vulnerable to attacks.
Yero has already ordered a full investigation into the attack and has promised to empower community surveillance by vigilante groups in areas that have become prone to attacks to complement formal security arrangements towards forestalling reoccurrence.
The Governor pleaded with the people of Ungwan Kajit to remain calm saying, “As a leader, I am not happy with such ugly situation and it is my responsibility to ensure security and peace for the entire people of the State.” After addressing members of the community who expressed their grief, Yero called for prayers for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives in the attack.
