Aregbesola, PDP trade words over achievements
Osun
State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, and the Peoples Democratic Party
in the state are in a fresh war of words over the achievements of the
current administration.
The governor, in a statement on Sunday by
his media aide, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon, said his administration had done
so well and the only option available to the PDP was to embark on a
campaign of calumny against him.
But the Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Bola Ajao, described the achievements of the administration as imaginary ones.
Aregbesola, however, urged the people of
the state to be wary of the “lies from the PDP” as the state began
preparations for governorship election coming up later this year.
He said, “We are compelled to alert our
people in the state at this time that ahead of the 2014 governorship
election, the only thing that will be left for the PDP is its leaders’
desperate bid to gain power, lord it over our people and further sharpen
their capacity to lie brazenly.
“If anyone is in doubt over the
antecedents of the PDP, a quick reminder of some of the lies told, which
were never substantiated, will be enough.
“The PDP, in its attempt to take the wind
off the sail of the noble efforts at giving the state and its people a
new brand identity to promote economic wellbeing, went to town with
tales that Aregbesola had concluded plans to take Osun out of the
Nigerian federation through secession.
“This was the basis for its call on the
Federal Government to stop allocating funds to the state. Rather than
prove the allegation, PDP governments in other states of the federation
swallowed their pride and copied the Osun brand initiative. No PDP
leader has had the honour to confess that they lied in their desperate
move to cripple the government.”
But the PDP said that the achievements of
the governor were mere propaganda to deceive the people of the state to
vote Aregbesola again.
The PDP statement reads, “On a daily and
continuous basis, Osun people are being inundated with endless
propaganda that Osun State has become an Eldorado. It is often
postulated that infrastructures now operational in the state are
world-class. Nothing can be farther from the truth than this.
“It is also on this same OSBC Channel
that top officials of this State of Osun came to sing discordant tunes
boasting and announcing different dates as the date of inauguration of a
non- existing airport in Ido-Osun. While Amuda S.A., of the Ministry of
Works announced February 2014, Ogbeni Akere, the Commissioner for
Information and Strategy, announced May 2014. We are waiting as these
dates only exist in the imagination of the announcers. There is no such
airport anywhere in Osun.
