Police disrupts pro-Oduah protest in Abuja

With the final hearing on the controversial purchase of two BMW bullet-proof cars for the Aviation Minister, Princess Stella Oduah concluded Friday, a group of Nigerian women took to the streets of Abuja yesterday, to challenge the various agitations by some Nigerians who have been calling for the sack of the Minister over the ongoing saga. In what could be termed a solidarity march, the women had asked a pertinent question on whether Ms. Oduah was the only Minister who has ever acquired a bullet-proof car in the country.
The women, numbering about 50 stormed the Federal Secretariat, chanting solidarity songs, displaying different placards with inscriptions such as “Leave Stella Oduah alone,” “Stella has transformed the aviation sector.”

Rita Obu, President of Goodluck Jonathan Women Support Group, who spoke on behalf of the women, had alleged that the entire incident was a frame up. She said the Minister was been blackmailed by her opponents. She likened the frame up to that of Patricia Etteh, former Speaker of the House of representative, lamenting that men would always want to push women aside whenever they are found in good position and doing what the men cannot do.
Obu said: “Is Stella Oduah the only Minister or public officer for whom bullet-proof cars have been bought in this country?”
“What her male political opponents have done is to frame her up. Whenever any woman is appointed into any high office in this country, the men would go and rake up untidy things about her for the purpose of bringing her down.
“Have the men exposed other political office holders who are also riding bullet-proof cars?
“I want all these questions answered.”
Meanwhile, the Police stormed the scene of the protest shortly after the group leader had spoken to disrupt the protest.
