High-level corruption rocks $470million CCTV project that could secure Abuja

Since the installation of the CCTV cameras, criminal have launched violent attacks on Abuja without being detected.

The failure of the National Public Security Communication System, NPSCS; otherwise known as the CCTV project, has heightened the level of insecurity in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, PREMIUM TIMES checks have revealed.

The project which was initiated by late President Umaru Yar’Adua, was conceived to help security agencies in the Federal Capital Territory check the growing insecurity in the federal capital.

But since the installation of the CCTV cameras and allied equipment, criminals and insurgents have over and over again launched violent attacks on the city without being detected.

Between 2010 when the project was initiated and now, Abuja has come under seven deadly attacks, leaving scores of people dead and properties worth billions of naira destroyed.

The certificate of occupancy of the property valued at N450 million was signed and released to him by Fashola in 2007 shortly after he assumed office.Tinubu’s residence at 26 Bourdillon Road, Ikoyi was initially falsely presented as Oando Plc Guest House. Later, he purportedly bought it from Oando, and used public funds to rebuild and renovate it. The Lagos State Government bought the property and paid an undisclosed sum to him and thereafter gave the property back to him under the bogus Pension Bill he signed to law shortly before he left office in 2007. The property is worth over N600 million according to source.The annex of the Lagos State Guest House in Asokoro, Abuja was bought by the State Government in 2006 for N450 million, purportedly to protect the main house from security breach. Shortly after Tinubu left office, the property was transferred to him under the pension plan he signed into law before leaving office.The 250-hectare land valued at about N35billion and strategically located at the Ajah junction on Lekki Road was initially meant for a General Hospital for the people of Eti-Osa Local Government but was stolen by Tinubu and handed over to Trojan Estate Ltd – a company owned by Deji and Wale Tinubu – to develop as Royal Garden Housing Estate at the expense of the taxpayers of Lagos.The 1,000 hectares of land valued at about N75billion located at Lakowe near Abijo at Ibeju-Lekki Local Government and given to Lekki Concession Company (LCC) which is partly- owned by Tinubu and Fashola and being developed as golf course and housing estate by Assets and Resource Management Ltd (ARM) as ADIVA project.The prime land of 157 hectares with 2.5km of Atlantic beachfront valued at about N10billion and stolen by Tinubu from the communities of Siriwon, Igbekodo, Apakin, etc in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government and given to Ibukun Fakeye – his crony to build a golf course and luxury villa with little or no compensation to the villagers. In addition, Tinubu paid $20million (N3billion) out of public treasury to Ibukun Fakeye to commence the project in late 2006.

SERAP sues Jonathan, Attorney General over withdrawal of corruption charges against Abacha

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has instituted a suit over the Federal Government’s decision to withdraw the N446.3 billion corruption charges against Mohammed, son of late military dictator, Sani Abacha.

The suit was ‎filed at a Federal High Court in Lagos against President Goodluck Jonathan and the Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF,.

In the suit (FHC/L/CS/1007/2014) filed on Monday, SERAP asked the court to declare the withdrawal of the charges against Mr. Abacha illegal, unconstitutional, and a contravention of the UN Convention against Corruption, of which Nigeria is a signatory.

The government had accused Mohammed of receiving stolen property worth N100.38 billion. The money is believed to have been stolen by the late Sani Abacha, when he was the Nigerian head of state from 1993 to 1998.

A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has reacted strongly to demands by his former party, the All Progressives  Congress, APC, that he retract his recent comments about the party or face legal action.

During an interview on a Channels TV programme on Monday, Mr. Fani-Kayode described Boko Haram as the armed wing of  the APC, a reason, he claimed, made the party to be sympathetic of the terrorist group

Yobo retires from Super Eagles

Yobo scored an own goal in the match against France.

The Captain of Nigeria’s national team, the Super Eagles, Joseph Yobo, has announced his retirement from the national team.

Yobo’s retirement is coming on the heels of the Super Eagles’ ouster from the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil having suffered a 2-0 defeat against France in the second Round.

The 33-year-old defender will go down in history as the first Nigerian to play 100 international matches

He also is the first Nigerian to play 10 World Cup matches but sadly capped it with an own goal in added time against Les Bleus on Monday.

World Cup: Keshi hints at quitting Super Eagles

Keshi said that he would be going to rest for about three months with his family.

The Head coach of the Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi, on Monday in Brasilia blamed the U.S. referee, Mark Geiger, for the outcome of the match against France. He also hinted the World Cup could be his last with the Super Eagles.

He said the referee should not have ruled off Emanuel Emenike’s 16th minute goal.

“This is the first time I will blame the referee for bad handling of a match. There is nothing I can do about that. He was the Alpha and Omega at that point in time,’’ Keshi said.

Osun Election: Jonathan, Oyinlola in closed-door meeting

“All I am telling is that Oyinlola in the face of the law remains the authentic secretary of the PDP.”

Perhaps buoyed by its performance in the Ekiti governorship election, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has begun moves to resolve the crisis in its Osun chapter with a view to winning the coming governorship election in the state.

As part of the strategy, President Goodluck Jonathan on ‎Tuesday held a closed-door meeting with a former Osun State governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Although the agenda of the meeting was not disclosed, PREMIUM TIMES learnt that it is part of efforts by Nigeria’s ruling PDP to win the August 9 governorship election in Osun.

The PDP’s candidate in the election, Iyiola‎ Omisore, is the major challenger to the incumbent governor, Rauf Aregbesola, of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Mr. Oyinlola was accompanied to Tuesday’s meeting by the National Chairman of the PDP, Adamu Muazu.
