It was the last week of January; Salma Abubakar (not her real names) had finished her transaction in one of the frontline banks in Maiduguri, capital of Nigeria’s most volatile state, Borno. All she needed to do, before she stepped out of the banking hall, was to drop a copy of her transaction teller in the designated box.
But someone attracted her attention. She had to pause and look again. Never in her wildest dreams did she imagine she would ever see that face again. She carefully walked towards the 26-year-old who was standing in a queue waiting to be attended by the cashier.

Policeman Shoots Truck Driver In Aba

Tragedy struck in Aba, Abia state on Tuesday when a truck driver was shot by a policeman as he was passing through the area where some commercial motorcycle riders at the Ogbor Hill allegedly engaged Policemen in a fight over alleged extortion.
Trouble was said to have started in the area when a team of policemen from the Ogbor Hill Division invaded the dilapidated spot of the Ikot Ekpene road at Ehere community where commercial motorcycle riders have converted to their loading bay, convey their passengers to different destinations in the hinterland and made to arrest them.
The motorcyclists were said to have resisted the move claiming that the area they are operating on was no longer accessible by motorists as the Aba —-Ikot Ekpene road have become impassable.
According to eyewitness accounts, a fight ensued as the policemen slapped one of the commercial motorcycle operators and this annoyed his members who insisted that nobody would be arrested.
One of the motorcyclists who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity after the incident said the policemen from Ogbor Hill division have been coming to them to collect their share of the daily takings.

Mother Sells her 3-day-old Baby for N260,000 in Akwa Ibom State

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command, according to Punch,  has arrested a nursing mother, Imaobong Udoh, for allegedly selling her three-day old baby girl. Also arrested along with Imaobong were four persons for allegedly participating in the theft of the baby – the buyer, Mrs. Regina James; her husband, Mfon James; the traditional birth attendant who delivered the baby, Mrs. Comfort Henry; and Mr Emmanuel Okon, a homeopathic doctor, who arranged the sale.
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Gwadabe, said in Uyo on Monday that it was the baby’s father who had reported the theft to the police, leading to the arrest of the suspects. Gwadabe said:
“On March 3, 2014, a case of child stealing was reported by Mr. Eteobong James, of No. 33 Urua Ekpa Road, Itu Local Governmnet Area, to the police, where a three-day-old baby girl was sold for N260, 000. Based on the report, the suspects were arrested. Mr Emmanuel Etim Okon, was the one that arranged the infamous deal and personally conveyed the baby from the point of delivery at Nna-Enin in Uruan Local Government Area to the buyers at No. 37 Church Road, Uyo.”

The lecturer while chatting with his female student on how he could help her improve her grades, totally forgot to turn off his camera and after he discovered what has happened, he deleted the video from video folder on his laptop but forgot to do same in the recycle bin.
A student who happened to be the girl’s fiance who was meant to help the lecturer format his hard drive found the video in his recycle bin while trying to save important documents before proceeding on the work.

In extreme anger, instead of submitting the video to the school board for disciplinary actions, the student circulated the video amongst students on campus and even went as far as posting it online.

Here we go again: A man wades through the water

Almost a month of rain is expected to fall on parts of the UK in just a few hours tomorrow - and the downpour will be followed by 70mph winds.

But the good news is spring is on the way with the promise of much more settled weather.

Cumbria, north west Wales and southern Scotland were due to get the worst of the downpour, with up to three inches drenching the regions.

Most of the rain was expected to fall over high ground, with towns and villages escaping the deluge.

The wet and windy conditions are expected to continue in the coming days.

Met Office forecaster Charles Powell said: “We do have a yellow warning in place for much of south west Scotland, north west England including Cumbria and into the north west of Wales.

“It is mainly going to effect the hills and mountains in those areas.

“There is a potential for as much as 80mm (3in) across parts of the Cumbrian fells.”

The average rainfall for Cumbria in February is usually up to four inches.

“In the south there will be not an awful lot of rainfall, it will be mostly dry and mild” he said.

Britian's top psychiatrist has accused the Government of failing mentally unwell children by forcing them to be treated on adult wards.

Yet alarming new figures show hundreds of under-18s – some as young as 12 – with mental health problems are being treated on adult psychiatric wards.

Dame Professor Sue Bailey, president of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, said: “We are at a tipping-point in mental health.

“It is completely unacceptable that children are having to be treated on adult psychiatric wards.
