A 23-year-old woman killed her kitten by putting it in the microwave, a court heard, as she pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.
Laura Cunliffe, 23, put her four-month-old pet Mowgli in the microwave for five minutes after it apparently attacked her goldfish.
Cunliffe, from Hoyland near Barnsley, then removed it from the appliance where the suffering animal was still alive, despite having its internal organs cooked.
‘The kitten was in a distressed state when Miss Cunliffe took it out of the oven,’ said Brian Orsborn, prosecuting for the RSPCA.
‘[It] could not get its breath and died about 90 minutes later. Miss Cunliffe made arrangements for the body of the kitten to be taken away to be buried.’

He continued: ‘The RSPCA became involved and was able to trace the man who carried out the burial.’
As reported by the MailOnline, the defence for Cunliffe stated that she had suffered with depression and psychosis.

Social networks should warn their millions of users against taking part in the NekNomination ‘game,’ councils have said.
The Local Government Association (LGA) wants clear and prominent messages displayed on the likes of Facebook and Twitter to highlight the hazards of the drinking craze.
NekNomination is an online fad for which partakers down, on video, their chosen amount of alcohol before posting the footage online and then daring other people to do the same.
The craze has been linked to five deaths in the UK and Ireland, including Bradley Eames, 20, from Nottingham, who consumed two pints of neat gin.
The LGA, which represents nearly 400 councils in England and Wales, said that some schools have given warnings at assemblies and on notice boards, while a number of councils are launching internet safety campaigns, the LGA said.

A Federal High Court sitting in  Lagos on Friday granted an order restraining the State Security Services and the Inspector General of Police, Mallam Mohammed Abubakar, and all the agencies of the Federal Government from arresting the suspended governor of  the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Lamido Sanusi.
Justice Ibrahim Buba granted the order in chamber after hearing Sanusi’s ex parte application shortly after it was duly filed on Friday.
The order is to subsist pending the hearing of the suit. The court adjourned till February 28, before which time parties in the suit were expected to have been served.

He cited the case of the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, who he said,  publicly  admitted that she spent N3.5bn of tax-payers’ money on kerosene subsidy without appropriation, on live television.
He said, “The minister of Petroleum Resources appeared before the National Assembly in front of television cameras and admitted that she spent N3.5bn of tax-payers’ money on kerosene subsidy without appropriation, nothing was done.”.
The  former CBN governor had vowed to pursue the matter in court to safeguard the bank’s autonomy and protect the nation’s economy against abuse of power shortly after the President suspended him on Thursday.
“He said, “I am also letting the people know that we believe that the President does not have the powers to suspend the CBN governor.
“I have no intention of returning to the job but we are going to court to confirm whether or not the President has powers to suspend the CBN governor.

One of the governors who attended the meeting said that the President actually tabled the issue and was advised to act fast because the leadership of the party and the Presidency were of the opinion that the suspended CBN governor was becoming a major opposition figure as the race for 2015 approached.
The source said, “The President tabled the matter and the governors and the leadership of the party agreed that the matter needed to be dealt with early.
“While some argued that the matter should be left till a later date to enable the suspended CBN governor to serve out his tenure, which ought to end around middle of the year, others felt that it would be better for him to be suspended in order not to cause further damage to the fortune of the President and the party as the race for 2015 hit up.
