ASUU strike: “University students have advised us to continue” – Fagge

ASUU-president-FaggeThe end to the industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, is not in sight as the union’s President, Dr. Isa Fagge, has said that students don’t want lecturers to end the strike.
Fagge said the students had instead urged them to continue with the industrial actions since the Federal Government did not want to implement the agreement it had with union since 2009.
The union leader who stated this in an interview with Punch said they had decided to heed the advice of the students to continue the strike until the Federal Government is ready to shift ground.
“Our students have come out to say they don’t want us to call off the strike until the Federal Government answers us, because they don’t want us to call off now and later we go back to strike again. So, we are heeding the advice of our students.
“There are issues and agreement they can implement without money. Why don’t they begin with those ones?” He asked.
Fagge added that it was unfortunate that the government had decided to pull out of the negotiations with ASUU, stressing that the union would not be intimidated.
He said, “Now, government has pulled out of the dialogue. We thought we were the ones going on strike, but now government has also gone on strik

2015: There will be bloodshed in Nigeria if Jonathan loses – Asari-Dokubo

Dokubo-AsariFormer militant and leader of the defunct Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, NDPVF, Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, yesterday, again declared that Nigeria would witness a heavy bloodshed if President Goodluck Jonathan loses in 2015.
According to him, Jonathan’s presidential ambition in 2015 was already settled, as his fellow Niger Deltans would not watch him being pushed out of office.
Asari-Dokubo, who was a guest on a Channels Television programme, Politics Today, said he would join the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to ensure Jonathan gets return ticket for another four years.
The ex-militant in the interview as monitored by DailyPost said, “I will declare for the PDP. We will fight, because in this battle, there is no retreat, no surrender. We will not take any prisoner of war. It will be total battle,” he said.
His words, “The way things are going, there is no sitting on the fence in the battle before us. When some people say they have a right to rule and others don’t have, then there is no sitting on the fence. All of us will have to be in the ring and fight. We cannot leave Goodluck (Jonathan) alone.
“My support for Jonathan will be biased, because charity begins at home. Monkey no fine, but im mama like am. Goodluck, na my person. 2015 is already a settled matter. Goodluck Jonathan would be President in 2015.
“Whether they contest or they don’t. If they say the blood of the dogs and the baboons will be soaked in the streets, or salt water in the streets, we will help them put the blood in the streets.”
He said, the exit of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and seven governors on the platform of PDP was not a threat to the ruling party, noting that the ruling party would soon bounce back.
The former fighter accused former Heads of State, Babangida and Obasanjo of encouraging the Jigawa state governor, Sule Lamido to run for President, with Rivers state governor, Chubuike Amaechi as his Deputy, stressing that their plans will fail.
He described Governor Amaechi as “a traitor to the collective aspirations of the people of Rivers State,” saying whatever situation the governor is facing, he deserves it, as there is no better way a traitor could be treated by the Rivers people.”

I will go elsewhere if I am no longer wanted in PDP – Oyinlola

A former Osun State governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has affirmed that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state will collapse without his support, stressing that he would decamp to another party if he’s no longer needed in the PDP.
Oyinlola, stated this yesterday while addressing party supporters at the Odo Otin Grammar School, Okuku, his country home in Osun State.
The former governor who is one of the leaders of the New PDP described Alhaji Bamanga Tukur as a dictator for running the affairs of the party without recourse to the provisions of the constitution.
According to him, his fight with Tukur started immediately after they both assumed office in March 2012.
Oyinlola explained that Tukur appointed a Chief of Staff and Media Aides which was against the party’s constitution.
The former governor noted that his position as the National Secretary of the party that those aides should not be paid from the party’s purse led to the problem between him and Tukur.
He also said that President Goodluck Jonathan had severally victimised him because of his relationship with Gen. Ibrahim Babangida whom he said he had known for over 30 years.
He said, “I am happy that despite the threat that you should no longer associate with me, you still come out in large number to honour me. God will honour you all. Without my support, it will be impossible for the PDP to win the governorship election in Osun State.
“They can only go round to campaign with what they intend to do, but if I follow them I will tell the people what I have done in the state.”
Asked if he could join the All Progressive Congress, Oyinlola said, “ I will go elsewhere if I am no longer wanted.

He said at this party post convention dinner, Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja yesterday. This is even as the former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the aggrieved governors were conspicuously absent at the dinner meant for reconciliation.
Jonathan described those with grievances as minor, assuring that all would be resolved. He said the dinner was a partial fulfilment of the party’s decision to encourage periodic meetings to interact with party members:
“In any human institutions there must be disagreements. What happened (the factional PDP) is a minor disagreements that can be solved.
“For those who have issues, we thank the elders and governors who have been meeting and listening to them, we are committed to resolving our differences. Even ordinary Nigerians believe PDP must remain one because is the only party that can continue to give leadership.
“Even those that are aggrieved call themselves the new PDP meaning they know without PDP they are nothing. PDP is intact, that we have some disagreements is normal. PDP is intact and will remain intact. Is only PDP that has not changed name or form.”
Vice President Namadi Sambo said the PDP has always provided leadership for others to emulate. Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State, noted that Nigeria has faced major challenges in the past and did not break up and Nigeria will not break up under Jonathan’s watch.

“We will work together as a team so that by 2015 we will come here again to shake hands. The National Chairman of PDP, Bamanga Tukur emphasised the importance of party loyalty and discipline.  “We must learn to accept change in order to build on democratic principles.”
“Our party cannot be relevant to the people only once in four years, when votes are needed, but at every time in order to improve their lot, he said.  “Dialogue and reconciliation should be encouraged but our politics should be based on issues rather than personalities”, he said.
Prof. Jerry Gana, described the faction that emerged after the convention as a pre-mediated plan, assuring, however, that the party remains focussed and deep enough to confront it. He noted that the party was going through a difficult times, but appealed that in this time of claims and counter claims, is not a time to show weakness.
He said while reconciliation is good, wonderful and is even encouraged by the Bible, but we should not give room to impression that certain people are indispensable. He said the second appeal, was to remind members of the biggest party in Africa that PDP is for governance, social justice.
“This party is strong, PDP is a family and in a family there must be trust. He said the way some of the family members are behaving , they have demonstrated that there is no trust. “There must be restoration of trust, goodwill, transparency and confidence

“Goodluck and Sambo will take us to the promise land. Loyalty and support is not the word of mouth, it is by action.
“Mr. President 90 per cent of Nigerians are with you and the Chairman of the PDP”. Also the state party chairmen in the 36 states of the federation declared their loyalty for the President now and beyond 2015, they also pledged their loyalty for the national chairman and the governors.

"God knew what you can handle before he gave it to you. So he does not expect you to be excellent on a level you cannot handle. He has assessed your capacity to handle the opportunity before he release you the opportunity so he does not waste the five-blessing on a 2-man. Therefore, if you are a 2 capacity person with a 2 talent opportunity, all you have to do is to work it out. Stop trying to be responsible for what God gave other people, be responsible for what God gave you, and if you perceive it to be yours work it out at your level."
"Therefore, all of you with the gift of frowning in your home must give your frown a break, because it is demonic captivity. Smile is contagious and it is you saying to satan in front of your family, no matter what satan does to frustrate my marriage, he who is in me is greater. It is you saying, it is not over until it is over, I shall not give up and I shall not surrender”
Without a clear vision from God, people acts like a wide horse. God will supernaturally add to your life as you sufficiently organised to contain it. Therefore, Excellence is the attention to details that gives rise to superior performance that leads to promotion in life"
"If you intend to marry a woman who has no emotion, no bad attitude, no problem then we should have ordered for a robot. Therefore, do not marry a man to reform him. That is what reform schools are for, the psychiatric and the insane hospitals will help you.”
